The The parish celebrated a twenty year anniversary of the two parishes on the West Side merging into one - Sacred Heart - Guadalupe. The parish councils and staff spent about six months in preparing for this event. Thanks to Chito for planning the music for the Mass, to Mona for coordinating the entertainment; to Rene for coordinating the people to bring and serve the food, to Steven and his family for facilitating the games for the children, to Cathy for the flyers to advertise the event and for providing so many wonderful pictures of the past and present. It was a great privilege to have Fr. Michael Walker joining us for the celebration. Over twenty years ago he was called to begin this process of the merger. He appreciated the opportunity to be invited, and felt that it was important for such an event.

I named the people who were directly involved in the planning, There are always those volunteers who provide so much to such a celebration: the bands and the D.J's, Joe Arce as the M.C., the confirmation candidates, and others who helped with the set up and take down of tables and chairs, the Guerra family and friends who so tirelessly set up the stage, the police who participated, and certainly to everyone who brought such wonderful food and were willing to help set it up and serve it. I realize that I probably missed others because there are people who quietly shared their time and talent wherever needed. Thank you so very much to all who participated in any way. This event shows that this parish is very alive and is going to continue to give spiritual direction to the West Side community. Fr. Al Ebach, C.PP.S.
